Waxing

Waxing involves a warm mixture that’s applied to the skin and removed quickly once it cools. There are two different types of wax: soft and hard wax.

Soft wax requires strips to remove and is made with rosin, oils, and other additives. The wax is applied, and the strip is placed on top to remove the hair against the direction of growth.

Hard waxes firm up on their own and are made from beeswax, resin, and oils. Unlike soft waxes, hard waxes remove hair without strips.

The benefits of waxing 

  1. Skin exfoliation – Because the substance adheres to the top layer of skin, it can remove dead skin cells to reveal a softer underlying layer leaving you with smooth even skin. 
  2. No cuts – With waxing, you aren’t at risk to any cuts or nicks that can leave you with scars from shaving.
  3. Stubble free skin – Waxing removes unwanted hair completely, from its roots.
  4. Slow hair re-growth – After waxing, the regrowth of your hair is very slow, often taking 4 to 6 weeks. As well, many say that they have found their hair to be finer, after the regrowth.
  5. Ingrown hairs – These can produce inflammation of hair follicles. This commonly occurs in shaved skin, When you use a razor, the end of the hair that is cut will be blunt which can easily become trapped under the skin, leading to painful infections.
    Waxing however, removes the entire hair shaft all the way down to the root. The new hair that starts to grow from the follicle is soft and thin, tapered at the end, meaning that it’s less common that it would get trapped under the skin. 
  6. Finer hair regrowth- A big advantage of waxing is that hair comes back thinner and lighter than it does with shaving. If you continue with waxing for long enough, you will eventually have barely noticeable hair in areas that have been waxed. Using a razor can give the appearance of thicker hair, due to the blunt ends of the hair. 
  7. Longer lasting – Up to two weeks smooth, soft skin if you opt for waxing rather than shaving. When hair is removed by the root, it takes much longer for it to grow back than when you shave.
